Project Goals
Escarpment Domes is a pilot project to test the feasibility of funding native forest regeneration, pest control and other biodiversity projects using accommodation with a sprinkling of art and creative experience design.
If it works we are going to jump in headfirst to our big project: Floruit.nz
Here’s a quick summary of Floruit:
We buy land. Accommodation and experiences fund native planting, regeneration and investment into adaptive appropriate land use and then carbon credits fund the transition of the land to Steward Ownership. Investors in the project are bought out and the ownership of the land is transferred to a trust designed to give long term decision making control to local iwi and other representatives of those that have meaningful long term relationships with the whenua (previous owners and our members). This is a process that will keep giving. Once the project assets are transitioned and the forest is doing it’s thing all profits from carbon credits and accommodation will be put back into community and the land will be an asset for all in perpetuity.
What gets us excited is the concept of these stunning pieces of land as huge canvases. With strong community support, money for investment and the goal of building stronger relationships with the whenua over generations there is no end to the amazing fun stuff you can accomplish.
So back to Escarpment Domes. In and of itself it’s a cool little project. Check out the video we made for our Pledgeme campaign below. We’ve got around 1000 natives in the ground this year and we’re planning for double that next year. So go book and come and experience our domes!
